Belarus’ emblem and flag are not simply state symbols, but part of internal culture

On the second Sunday of May, Belarusians celebrate the Day of the National Emblem and the National Flag of the Republic of Belarus. The Rector of Polotsk’s State University, Oleg Romanov, shared his view stating that national symbols are part of Belarus’ internal culture.
“This holiday is significant for every Belarusian citizen and patriot,” Mr. Romanov said, adding, “Our symbols have a deep meaning since they are not revolutionary in relation to our past. They keep the ideas inherited in the Soviet period and in the independent period of our country's development. Therefore, the emblem and flag of Belarus are not mere state symbols for each patriot now.”
