More than 100 museums will participate in the Third National Forum “Museums of Belarus” which will be held in Mogilev in early October

03.10.2016

The upcoming forum will draw together 95 state and departmental museums, 17 public and 9 school museums, Deputy Culture Minister Vasily Chernik told the media following an enlarged meeting that discussed the organization of the forum.
“This event is one of the most important in the cultural life of the country. Mogilev will bring together museum professionals and experts in museology and museum technology. The forum will discuss the pressing problems facing the museums and will identify the promising areas for the development of museology. We invited experts from Russia, Lithuania, Poland and other countries to attend the event. This year the jury of the contest program will be led by Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova,” Vasily Chernik said.

The forum will run an exposition in the Olimpiets sports center where the museums of the country will present their exhibitions and new projects, modern interactive and digital technologies. The motto of the forum is “Destroying stereotypes, overcoming the conservatism.” “The choice of the motto was not accidental. In recent years the museums of Belarus have made great headway, both in terms of technical equipment and personnel development. Our cultural institutions have started working more closely with their customers not only within the museums but also outside them, making a wider use of modern technologies, and implementing more creative projects. This helps them be more cost-effective. In the sphere of culture, it is the museums who earn the bulk of extrabudgetary funds today,” Vasily Chernik noted.

The forum will also run a business program with lectures, discussions, seminars and master classes from prominent museology professionals. The forum will provide a unique opportunity for the Belarusian museology community to hold a series of professional meetings and share experiences. The forum will also be attended by companies servicing the museum industry that will present their products.

Mogilev is preparing an eventful program of tours and concerts. The arts and crafts expo will be arranged in front of the Olimpiets sports center. The forum will also name the country’s best museums across numerous nominations.

Best museum employees and teams will be honored during a special ceremony.
Today the meeting approved the draft concept and main activities of the forum, its symbols, and discussed a number of organizational issues.
